The MLS has released the 2008 Season Ticket numbers.
The good news is that the league has increased by 16%. The bad news is that the Los Angeles Galaxy, who have the world-famous David Beckham on their team, have dropped 15% of their season tickets.
What is truly crazy is the team ‘up north’, Toronto FC. This club is in its second year in the league and played horrific fútbol last season. Despite this lack of quality, Toronto has increased their season ticket sales by a whopping 34%. This is the fourth largest percentage increase, behind Kansas City, 2007 MLS Cup holders Houston, and Colorado.
34% is a great increase. What is more impressive is that their growth of 4992 season tickets is larger than the ticket sales of 12 other MLS Clubs. Their total season ticket count is 16,641 - more than twice the number of the second-most season tickets in Los Angeles [7915].
With more MLS clubs turning a profit, it is only a matter of time before Toronto FC becomes a dominant MLS team. With this type of fan support, they will have more resources to develop players. As the only MLS team in Canada [Canada does have 2 USL division 2 team] it seems that the Canadians indeed love their fútbol, eh?
